So there's so much to say in this post that I'm not sure where to start! I guess I'll start by saying that 2 kids is an entirely different ballgame!! I'm sure part of that is due to the fact that my kids are 15 1/2 months apart, but I have a feeling it's a difficult transition no matter the age gap. Caroline is still fairly "needy" and can't communicate everything she wants easily so we're dealing with a lot of communication difficulties such as, "No Caroline, you can't hit the baby" or "No Caroline, don't rub her face with the wet wipe" or "No Caroline, don't throw the boppy on top of her." See a trend? I think we may be entering the terrible two's a bit early. Does that mean that they end earlier? Ha!
Amelia is doing great. She's eating wonderfully. I was so nervous about breastfeeding this time since last time wasn't quite so wonderful. I had a lot of supply issues last time (I got the flu 2 weeks after C was born and my supply tanked and never fully recovered) and I was nervous the issues would repeat themselves. However, my supply is great and Amelia has overcome some of her preemie problems and is finally eating like a champ. If you tried breastfeeding your first child and for whatever reason it didn't work out - don't give up! Apparently you can have a totally different situation with your next child! We had problems in the beginning because she was SO SO SO sleepy. I would spend over an hour trying to wake her up to eat. It was miserable for a few days. But she finally started latching and eating and things have gotten much easier feeding-wise since then. I'm also much less "shy" about nursing this time. I actually nursed her in public the other day without a cover. I wouldn't normally do that, but I didn't have anything to cover myself with and my kid was hungry. Oh well!
Judd started back to work this week and it's been SO much different without him home to help. He was incredibly helpful with Caroline while he was home and I was able to get a lot more sleep. Now that he's back at work, I'm feeling really run down. I've also got a stupid head cold as of yesterday which certainly doesn't help much - but I'm surviving! I'm ready for Saturday so Judd will be home! Ha!
Amelia had her checkup two days ago and she's 7lbs 10oz! She's getting bigger everyday. We also had some newborn pictures taken when she was a week old by Jessica Rowell Photography. I'm SO happy with them!
Aren't they wonderful?! I'll add Amelia's birth story as soon as possible! I know you're all on pins and needles waiting for it, right? ;)
Have a wonderful day!

ReplyDeleteWell I have been waiting for the birth story :D Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteI had a friend that a tiny 4lb 9oz baby at 36 weeks and she had the same problem trying to nurse a sleepy, sleepy baby. I tried my best to help her get through the first little bit, but she gave up pretty quickly. So great of you to stick it out!!
